Flirtey UAV Service to Deliver Textbooks to Australian University Students

Flirtey UAV Service to Deliver Textbooks to Australian University Students

An Australian start-up called ‘Flirtey’ aims to be the first commercial UAV courier service in the world, partnering with textbook rental service Zookal in their endeavor.  Employing hexacopter unmanned aircraft, the Flirtey and Zookal service will deliver textbooks to students based upon the GPS coordinates of their place of order.  Flirtey and Zookal are promising end to end delivery within minutes, with students able to track their order via a Google Maps mobile device application.

The partnership with Flirtey will significantly reduce the same day shipping costs of Zookal’s rented textbooks which can cost in excess of $20 in Australia, but which Flirtey aim to minimise to just a few dollars.  Flirtey are also exploring the expansion of their service to other products including food and beverages.  The University of Sydney born start-up is looking to launch their service in March 2014, pending regulatory approval from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
